Russians Love Hungarian Property

In 2014 more than 1800 apartments were bought by foreigners in Hungary, mostly in Budapest – and mostly by Russians. According to the Hungarian government’s statistics regarding property acquisition permits more apartments were bought by foreigners in 2014 than in 2013 – 2 years ago 1267 apartments were sold to foreigners. Most foreign buyers were from Russia in 2013 as well.

Budapest and Zala County Were the Most Popular

Russian buyers bought most property in Budapest and Zala County; 236 in Budapest and 228 in Zala County. Chinese buyers were the second most interested in Hungarian property: 400 apartments were sold to Chinese buyers, 355 in Budapest. Tolna, Békés and Nógrád Counties were the least in demand; only 3 apartments were sold in each county.

More than 74 Percent Bought Apartments

Besides Russians and Chinese, foreigners from Yemen and the Seychelles also bought Hungarian property. 74.6 percent of the foreign buyers bought an apartment or a house, 2 percent a holiday resort, 0.8 percent an agricultural building, and 22.6 percent another kind of property.
