This part of the city was named after Maria Theresa, a former Hungarian queen. The old Andrássy Avenue crosses the entire district, entering the Heroes' Square, the gate of the City Park, where, besides the vast green space, many museums and the Zoo provides regeneration opportunities for residents of the area.
Departing from Deák Square, travel on the continent's first subway line (M1) to the world-famous Opera, or at Oktogon, take the tram line 4-6, which takes us halfway through the city. Next to Western Railway Station (designed by Eiffel), Westend City Center is one of Budapest's largest shopping centers, offering offices spaces, shops, restaurants and a cinema. Other restaurants and cafés line both Andrássy Avenue and the cosy trees of Liszt Ferenc Square.
There are several theatres on Nagymező Street offering cultural performances. Part of the district, close to City Park, is home to embassies from many countries with elegant villas. Students may prefer the area due to the proximity of the ELTE Faculty of Education and Psychology or the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. On Andrássy Avenue there are several office buildings waiting for companies looking for an elegant location.
